Get into the
‘Zone’
with the latest
installment of
the popular Soca
music compilation
series “D’Soca
Zone 5th Spin”.
This popular compilation
series was the
launching pad
for the recent
mainstream Soca
radio hits ‘Turn
Me On’ by
Kevin Lyttle and
‘Tempted
To Touch’
by Rupee. D’Soca
Zone is a who’s
who of the current
Soca music scene,
and a first look
at the songs that
are bubbling up
from the Caribbean.
The album is a
mix of new Carnival
tunes for the
upcoming season
(‘100 Years’
Rikki Jai), current
radio hits (“Nookie
Tonight”
Jamesy P) and
PopSo favorites
that blend Soca
sounds with Pop
and R&B styles
(“Darlin”
Dawg E Slaughter,
“Heaven”
Ghetto Flex &
Kess and “Shut
Up” by Meshach).
Soca is coming
on strong, with
the 100th anniversary
of Trinidad carnival
this year and
the addition of
a Soca category
to the Grammy
Awards in 2006,
the sounds of
Soca are hitting
a wider audience
than ever. Get
into the Zone
and be a part
of this exciting
genre as it zooms
to new heights!

SIZZLA
Life
 |
“Life”
is a brand new
studio album with
exclusive tracks,
which is mostly
produced by Sizzla
himself for his
own label Kalonji
Records. Only
four tracks weren’t
produced by himself:
the album opener
“Things
Will Be Better”,
which is done
for Donald “Tixie”
Dixon’s
True Love Records,
“Haven’t
I Told You”
aka “For
You” across
the Fifth Element
produced “I
Swear” riddim,
“Ain’t
That Nice”
for High Fence
Records and the
Grass Roots production
“Jah Love”.
Recorded exclusively
at Sizzla’s
newly built studio
in Judgement Yard,
Kingston JA, the
“Life”
album sees him
more or less return
to form. Musically
it brings a fine
mix of modern
roots reggae,
dancehall and
crossover beats.
Amongst the musicians
involved there
are people like
Donald Dennis,
Kevin Blake, Daniel
“Blaxxx”
Lewis, Shawn McDonald,
Omar Johnson,
Desca and Danny
“Axeman”
Thompson. Lyrically
spoken Sizzla
treats the listener
to the usual topics
i.e. Rastafari,
reality and girls.
Particular worth
of hearing are
tracks such as
“Things
Will Be Better”,
“Marijuana”,
“Haven’t
I Told You”,
“We Got
The Love”,
“Jah Love”,
“Life”
and “Stay
In Tune”.
‘Life’
is Sizzla’s
labour of love
this is an album
full of emotions
from soulful roots
and love songs
to signature blood
and fire tracks
that capture the
spirit and magic
of Kalonji and
what he believes
in his heart to
be right and true.
