August is here which means we’re half way through 2003 and ready for season next month – but for NOW and our readers the party never stops – the proof is our exciting cover story on three sizzlin’ entertainers which starts on page 10! Jason Jeffers has his Reggae Trax on page 30, The Hip Hop Trax on page 22 and our music lists can be found on page 28.

Has everyone had a chance to see Bad Boys II yet? That movie is off the chain, and if you loved the movie, you’ll need the soundtrack. Bad Boy Records has released the soundtrack for this summer's hottest movie, Bad Boys II, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The rollout: a unique double single release featuring hip-hop's finest....Jay-Z's "LA LA LA (Excuse Me Again)," as well as a historical collaboration as P. Diddy pairs with Nelly & Murphy Lee of the St. Lunatics on "Shake Ya Tail Feather." Bad Boys II The Soundtrack is the only place fans can find the underground smash hit "Realest N%@$#!" featuring 50 Cent & the late great Notorious B.I.G. P.Diddy joins Lenny Kravitz and the Neptunes' Pharrell on "Show Me Your Soul." The album also has exclusive cuts from Justin Timberlake "I Love You" and Beyonce "Keep Giving Your Love To Me."

Always looking to expand his Bad Boy empire, P. Diddy now wants to own a piece of time itself. The rap mogul is currently in talks to become a minority owner of the high-end Ice-Tek Watch Company, which manufactures timepieces favored by such celebrities as 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, Kate Hudson and even Oprah.

And what about gear? Jay-Z, Outkast, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Nelly...and you can add 50 Cent to that list of artists with their own clothing lines. 50 has joined forces with Marc Ecko, owner and
creator of Ecko Unlimited. And what else would 50 called his clothing line? G-Unit Clothing Co. The line is expected to be ready for the
holidays (hear the cash registers ringing?), and the gear will retail for a
relatively low price ($40 for jeans). Don’t expect to see any prices with .99 though, all items will be $X.50. “It’s not new for a rapper or pop artist to launch a clothing line, but what is new is that a design-driven company like us is partnering with an artist to offer the marketing and merchandising,” Ecko told The Associated Press.

Maryann Reid, soothing soul sister who is the author of Sex and the Single Sister has her brand new book out Use Me Or Lose Me (St. Martin Press). It’s already received rave reviews in Ebony and The Source and can be purchased by checking her out on www.amazon.com or www.cushcity.com. In closing out July I’d like to express my sympathy and those of my readers who mourn the loss of Barry White, Compay Segunda (Buena Vista Social Club) and salsa queen Celia Cruz – there is going to be some mighty fine singing going on in heaven thanks to three very talented irreplaceable stars.

Peace!

Paul “Hollywood” Williams
