AKON is definitely a name and sound that has been sprouting up these
days. For some, he’s the newest installment in Hip-Hop. For others,
he’s that unknown voice on the FIESTA riddim with the hook that sticks
in your head “A-K….. Gun Shot! AK….. Gun Shot!” Either way, he’s the
latest artist to come from Street Records Corporation, founded by Loud
Records’ Steve Rifkin and distributed via Universal Records. With his
new album “TROUBLE” dropping, he’s quickly becoming the most
anticipated artist outside of Kanye West.

FARENHEIT has spent much of the last two years on the road with SEAN
PAUL. But that’s not all he’s been up to. He recently recorded some
songs including “7 Days” produced by Leftside & Esco, “Slip Slide” on
the Mexican riddim as well as “Flashing Lights” a combination with
Sizzla. He’s also starting to get some shows on his own including one
coming up in Hawaii and Berkley California. Meanwhile, Farenheit is
about to act – you can catch him in the film “Lively Up Yourself” – a
German movie currently being shot in Jamaica. Plus, he’s featured in
“Goathead” a movie shot in Jamaica last year that is expecting a
release soon.

Kanye West is certainly taking the radio waves by storm. With his
original and authentically old school style, he’s bringing a new twist
of topics to the rap game. While the lyrics to his new song “JESUS
WALKS” isn’t over the top in their spiritual context, the implication
is still there. He’s recently been added to the USHER tour as the
opening act. But some don’t know that not only is Kayne an artist, but
he’s a producer as well and has done tracks for: Beanie Siegel, Dead
Prez, Ludacris, Scarface and Twista. With his debut album “College
Dropout”, Roc-A-Fella’s latest, the Chicago native has been making an
impact on radio and video shows nationwide.

Kevin Lyttle has had wide success with the single “Turn Me On”. He
quietly penetrated the broad Reggae markets with this song and managed
to secure a record deal with Atlantic Records. The song has been doing
extremely well in Europe too. He’s gearing up for his next single “Last
Drop”. A video has been shot in support of this song as well. Still
TURN ME ON is definitely a radio and club favorite and the remix
featuring SPRAGGA BENZ is still
running strong!

MISS THING has certainly gone far with the buzz off the collaboration
“Dude” with Beenie Man. She’s presently working on tracks for a debut
album, to be done with Sequence Records. Other key songs that have put
Miss Thing on the map are also done by producer Dave Kelly including
“Get That Money” and “Regular”. It will be interesting to see what
this album is comprised of being that all her material to date has been
done by D. Kelly – one of Dancehall premiere producers.

SASHA is jumping on board with REGGAETON – the Spanish version of
Dancehall. IVY QUEEN is the top artists in the Spanish speaking world,
which is amongst the largest populations around today. SASHA and IVY
QUEEN have teamed up to do a Spanish remix of “Dat Sexy Body”. Already
this remix is doing very well at Latin radio stations.

TLC is cooking up some new things. The last two years have been
relatively difficult for the remaining members; T-Boz and Chilli. The
death of Left Eye grately affected the two whom often couldn’t speak of
it. Further, recently they’ve both had relationships crumble but they
are picking up all the pieces and moving forward. They have just inked
a “reality tv” deal to scout for a new party to be the third member of
TLC. While no one can truly replace Lisa Lopez in spirit or in our
hearts, the group has seemed a little off without a third piece.

VOICEMAIL has been really doing some studio work. Closely aligning
themselves with producer Danny Champagne for his Jamaica imprint -
Champagnie Records has helped them to build their catalog. It’s
certainly not the norm for a producer in Jamaica to take such an
interest in struggling artists. However, with Champagne’s assistance
the group has done several collaborations with Delly Ranks including
the big tunes on the GRINDIN riddim called “She Want It” and
combination Weddy Time.
